Poetry Day at #OurAuthorGang

A poem by David W. Thompson

We’ll Remember

You left us way too early.

No time would be enough.

Still, time heals all, or so I’m told

But if the years do dull the pain

What then of the memories?

Will past joys, too, slip from sight?

Will my mind’s eye distort your visage

‘Til only faded photos remain?

Will your voices not whisper in the wind?

Soothing my fears, answering my prayers?

Will the taste of a freshly picked tomato

Not recall the loving labor of your hands?

For I’d bear this grief with a smile,

Pray the lash cut even deeper,

To never forget your names

To not know a day without you…

I saw your dreams forgotten.

While making our dreams come true

You did so forever smiling

Could it be that they were the same?

But my grief makes me selfish

For I knew you oh so long.

Others have missed you deeply

And now your pain is gone.

I know you’ll always be watching

To guide, to comfort, to cheer.

I know you’ll not be lonely

With so many in your arms.

But know this heart is empty.

Until I am too reborn.

And we won’t forget

Love you, Mom and Dad.

Poetry Saturday 1 at #OurAuthorGang

 She Waits by Lorraine Carey

She Waits

She'd rise every day
Getting her best dress on
Hoping he'd return
It had been too long

So much time had passed
She watched with hopes
As each ship that appeared
On the horizon was his

She knew his love for the sea
Was stronger than his love for her
What he didn't know
Was that she knew the sea
Long before he knew her.

She, too, had tasted salt on her lips,
Had danced with the tide in moonlit swells,
But she chose the shore, chose love, chose him—
While he chose only the endless waves.

Yet still, she waits, a shadow cast,
A figure framed in fading light,
Her heart was a beacon, burning bright,
For a ship that never turned at last.

365: Poetry by Cindy J. Smith at #OurAuthorGang

Poems from the Heart

This collection was created from my 2017 New Years Resolution. Seeing and hearing various remarks about the new year being "a clean slate" and that "each day is a new page in life write something fresh" inspired me to vow to write a poem everyday. I do write almost everyday so I challenged myself to collect the very first poem, no matter the topic, as the day's offering. No theme was involved, everything was fair game. I wanted to be able to look back and see if perspectives really do change daily. I offer everyone a ride on this poetic rollercoaster, where life changed at the speed of a turned page.

 HALF & HALF
Life is a struggle
A balancing act
Find "truths" by mixing
Some fiction with fact
To find happiness
Plod through woe and grief
Use sports and hobbies
For boredom relief
Our friendships keep
Enemies at bay
Work hard to succeed
But make time for play
Appreciate light
Because we know the black
Face sadness knowing
Smiles can bring joy back
Negatives reveal
Positives reward
Balancing the carrot
We all head towards

The readers said:
"It has everything love, sadness, sarcasm and humor...there really are so many emotions and I think she touches them all, meaning to or not! What a perfect collection of what is quite possibly her heart and soul. How special are we that she is so willing to share them. "  Kim Page

"I can open this book at any time and find new meanings to fit my own situations. This is what Smith does for me, she writes what I can't even express. She gets in my head, and I have made her a place there."  Marsha Thalleen

"Not only is 365 an engaging collection of creative art, it reads with the fascination of a diary. Each poem is a window into its day of creation, an intimate vantage point that sweeps you away into the author's world." EIEIOMommy
