Today in Loki’s Animal Stories, author Toi Thomas recounts a true animal adventure as told from the perspective of Loki, A Small Gang of Authors mascot. So, it’s a fake true story. Enjoy!

Some people don’t like zoos, but not me. Sure, I’d love for wild animals to be able to roam free in the wild, but sometimes the safety of a zoo is needed. Plus, it gives animal lovers like me a chance to see these animals up close and relate to them.
Usually, dogs aren’t allowed in zoos, but I guess because I’m a minor celebrity, I was allowed to tag along with author and Our Author Gang member, Toi Thomas, to the Virginia Zoological Park, also known as the Norfolk Zoo.
It’s a pretty cool zoo. There’s a petting area for farm animals, a reptile exhibit, an African and Australian exhibit, and so much more. Plus, there’s a train. Who doesn’t love a train? Since Toi is a zoo member, we go there a lot and are always pleased with the experience. No matter how many times we go, though, the red panda is always the best.
Some say the red panda is a link between the Asian panda and the North American raccoon, but I honestly don’t know. What I do know, is that they are really cute.
